Always: Sunset on Third Street became a social phenomenon that triggered a national wave of nostalgia for Japan’s Showa Era (1926-1989). It won all but one award at the 2006 Japan Academy Prize, including Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress.

Part 2 follows up on the events of the previous Always movie, and opens with Godzilla ripping apart Tokyo. This fantasy dream sequence belongs to writer Chagawa (Yoshioka), who is still working on kid's fiction while trying to get more serious assignments. Chagawa’s happiness is put to the test when the estranged father of Chagawa’s young ward, Junnosuke (Suga Kenta), vies for custody.

From one of Japan's foremost emerging talents, Tanada Yuki, comes a female road movie that touches on the plight of stray animals in Japan and the problem of self-identity in a society that can be unforgiving of those who stray from social norms.

Tanada has earned a reputation for her sensitive portrayal of female protagonist, and popular Japan Academy award winner, Aoi Yu turns in an extraordinary performance of awkward Suzuko, sympathetically conveying the shame that causes her to withdraw from friends, family, co-workers and the transformation she undergoes.
